HISTORY OF THE CHURCH AND RELIGIOUS PRACTICES
In 1918 Fr. Giovannoni established Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Price, Utah. The present church was completed on June 20, 1923. The French title comes from the support of the French and French Basques in the area. Notre Dame Grammar School was opened in 1927-1928 and was staffed by the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul. The high school was added in 1956 under the leadership of Father John LaBranche. The School was closed in 1999.
The parish reflects a mix of many ethnic groups. French, Hispanic, Italian, and Slovenian people make up the majority of the population. The Catholic community of Price is a tight-knit group. They are warm enduring people. They are generous with their time and their lives and they are committed to their Catholic faith. Over the years they have been served by many likewise generous Priests, Deacons, Daughters of Charity, and lay persons. Now we are very fortunate to have Father Arokia Dass David who serves Notre Dame, Mission San Rafael, Good Shepherd, and St. Michael the Archangel.
Notre Dame de Lourdes Church is the center of the Catholic community of Price. It is their place to hear the Word of God and to receive the body of blood of Christ. It is much more in that, from this “center of faith”, parishioners take out to the greater Price community the example and grace of the Eucharist they have received.
